People, Receipts and the Machine

People, Receipts and the Machine

Bulgaria has two elections on Sunday.

One for Parliament and another for President.

Sections with more than 300 voters will use machines for quick and better services of the counting.

In less than 30 hours before the day of the vote the institution that organizes the process decided to change ONE RULE

Previously the rule says that there is a need to be checked only 30 percent of machines, just for controlling the statistical data.

Members of each section with a machine are obligated to count manually the receipts issued by it.

The reason is to check the calculations made by the machine

But even the machine calculations are not correct, the law is clear - counting of the receipts did not change the results of the vote.

Then why does someone wants to obligate the thousands of workers in sections to make that count?

Of course, that will overdue the time spent on preparing the paperwork of the results of the elections.

In the end, the machine is printing a report with a summary of the vote.

That change (using machines for the vote) is new and have start widely in 2021.

In the past, in Bulgaria, all elections were based on paper ballots.

I remember then people who were trying to read what the voter is marked on them.

And I will never forget the exhausted people carrying all ballots to the calculations centers falling down on the ground, with no more powers, and did not sleep for more than 48 hours waiting in line for a computer operator to input the vote.

The latest vote in Bulgaria with fewer machines finished without main problems.

All that brings tons of interpretations and changeable decisions about the vote.

But today machine votes can not be changed once it's finished.

Then WHY is that fight versus the machine?

I am not sure YET.

Who wins from that chaos and fear directed to the machine and vote as a whole?

In 2021 I wrote more about the political environment in Bulgaria:
